Agusto Failure or Not?

What are the symptoms of an Agusto failing?
Reason I ask is a mates TS1 motor (my old motor) has suddenly stopped working. Initially it just died after a short run and failed to start. Now sometimes it'll just start after leaving a while, not rev, but just die again. Now I thought reed petals, but these are fine, tried another carb (VHSH30), allbeit same slide & top, same issue. Spark is good, but not checked timing yet.
Any pointers on this?

Try another CDI first.

Always hard to do an Internet diagnosis.......but sounds like LT coil breaking down under load. Try easy fixes first just to save yourself the hassle.....spark plug, ht cap, lead, cdi etc, as they are easy to swap and check, just to rule them out. But I suspect a change of stator will cure the issue.

You could always un plug up just to rule it out, if it fires instant answer.

Yes, I'll throw my hat in the ring too

and +1 for bypassing the Augusto as an early simple test, only requires swapping 2 spade connectors. I have done it several times but it has usually turned out to be the LT coil.

Okay, an update on this one.
After changing the LT coil the same issue was there, but whilst the stator was off I noticed cracks on the pickup...

Unfortunately the inclination to keep travelling and buggering about trying to get this sorted for my mate was eluding us, so a new BGM DC stator was ordered, fitted and timed, and the problem was sorted. The pickup may get replaced some time in the future, but I'm assuming that it was the issue here

If only they all obliged by giving visible indicators of failure

I had 4 CDI's that failed in succession over a period of a week, 2 of them let me know what the fault was by blowing a chunk of plastic out of the side....annoying but it did remove the guesswork
