P200 Worn or damaged clutch 23T drive cog or primary drive

Hi all, can anyone tell me what the signs would be for a worn or damaged P200 Clutch drive cog. My P200 is making a ""Whirly noise"" when running, but when you depress the clutch it stops. I am no mechanic, but my understanding is that the cork plates spin freely with the drive cog engaging the primary drive when in gear and thus turning the gearbox, but when the clutch is pressed the springs compress the plates together and thus preventing the drive from spinning and thus turning the gears (but I could be wrong!!!).
I'm guessing that the ""Whirly noise"" is generated from either the clutch cog or the primary drive , so i'm just trying to eliminate the clutch before dropping the whole engine out to repair the primary drive.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Surely almost the opposite.
When you pull the clutch lever in it pushes the outer bell toward the crank giving the plates room to separate from each other and prevent the crank driving the gears. Then when you release the lever the bell moves out and allows the spring pressure to push the cork and plain plates together and transmit the rotation to the gearbox?
I think that whirry noise issue is a signe of worn crank bearings.

I thought it was the crank bearing originally and changed it, but the noise continued after rebuild.

Cush crive plated seemed ok on rebuild.

I know you've mentioned that you changed the crank bearings but does the flywheel move much when you enguage the clutch? The other 3 things that made noises for me were the spring that holds the cover over the clutch nut being loose and a clutch side oil seal that wasn't seated fully and wore a circle into the crank face. Also had cosa clutch plate tangs so badly damaged that they polished the clutch cover and made plenty of noise doing it!
