ignition suddenly out question

Hi again. I have recently encountered a problem which i'm struggling to find and fix. I have really bad spluttering and running like it's on Kangaroo petrol almost from the set off point. This seems to have started slowly and now is a full on problem. I've cleaned the carb, petrol tank, replaced the fuel pipe, spark plug and plug cap, had the top off and replaced the rings even though they probably still had life in them. Checked for loose earths checked under the headset top changed a few bulbs just as a maintenance thing and the problem still continues.
Now i'm thinking perhaps the woodruff key might have sheared or the rivits on the flywheel might be going thus altering the timing. If it were one of the flywheel related problems would it still start up as it always has?
If anyone has any other suggestions i'm all ears. It's a Varitronic system and has never given me a minute's worry. Thanks

Mine did exactly that when the LT coil on the stator started to break down. Began as an intermittent misfire then got worse until it turned into a kangaroo and then conked out completely.
That was an old indian stator though, not a varitronic

If you still have the instructions Dave it tells you the readings for the LT coil which are 290 Ohms give or take 20% between the red/black and blue (earth) but I found that mine was reading ok but still not running right. As for removing the flywheel all I can suggest is scrape the threads out , WD40 and try a new extractor fully bottomed before tightening the centre bolt and pray. If not it may need welding in to get it off ? Try Terry Ward ( Dragsterlam) he may be able to help with your problems. It's a shame a centre cap isn't supplied to protect the threads so I coat them in copper grease to prevent corrosion.

Possible loose magnet in flywheel. Similar symptoms on a TS1 i saw Dan dyno.

The LT coil can't be changed as far as I'm aware, you have to replace the whole coil assembly which cost me around £95 from Terry Ward and he gives a warranty. You can use your backing plate. Set your meter onto Ohms setting, red probe on the red/ black wire the black probe on the blue from stator . You may have to change the Ohms settings until you get somewhere like . Pretty sure the Lambretta varitronic uses a standard puller , that's what I use. The Vespa system comes with its own puller.

Problem now solved,

it turned out to be a faulty L.T coil on the stator. All replaced and fixed. Thanks for all the advice you guys.
