Just purchased new clutch plates and strong springs , the springs vary in height from 34.69,35.51,36.03,36.51 and 37.22mm.
i know they should all be the same height ( within reason) , so whats acceptable and whats not. i wont be using these ,unless convinced otherwise.
Clutch spring tolerences.

Squeeze them all up in the vice (be careful), then measure them again.
I have the spring chart, put together along with Adam Winstone, it's in Excel, so I can't post it on here

i wouldnt bother your head what they measure unloaded....somebody mentioned on one of the forums to check what they are like compared to new once a year and posted a pic, think they had compressed at least 6-8mm from new...i recently changed my gearbox and looked at my mb springs(a few months old) and they were all shapes and sizes,i re used them and was perfectly fine
anyone got a link to the spring guide/chart
?

Even I'm not sure where the spring chart is anymore but the pal that I put it together with was recently saying that it is about time that we updated it, especially as there are more new springs on the market now.
I/we knew that such a chart needed to be made public so that people could have an informed insight into what they were buying and what might better suit their clutches, i.e. some that worked very well in 4-plates went coil bound well before they would work in a 5-plate, others were too big an outer diameter to fit in the machined seats so could only ever semi-fit on the slant (!), others were excellent dims but thin and soft, etc.
My pal has now come up with a decent set up for actually measuring the strength of the springs (no longer just measuring physical dims and coil bound/compressed lengths) so it may well be something that we do over the forthcoming months, providing dealers are happy to send us samples of their springs. What I will say is that we will be posting findings and talking about what people should be looking for when considering which to buy but we WOULD NOT be recommending brand A over brand B or saying which is better, rather, we would present our findings and tell you what you should be looking for... so that the products speak for themselves.
The old chart still has some very useful detail in it and is still relevant as it is so feel free to hunt it down. I think that it was posted on the LCGB site but I have no issue with others posting it here (providing site moderators are happy with that?).

In fact any items people deem to be helpful can be posted in the 'tech section' and be made stickies etc....

Maybe getting a set of springs from the dealers without their prior knowledge of the reason why would ensure a good sample of what joe public can expect
