can you convert a 4 plate sprocket to 5 plate?
will it take 5 surflex b's?

Yes but you will need thinner steels and to get it to work properly you will need to mix and match them to make sure that you have the correct clearance between the plates when full compressed (1.5mm). Good springs like those from MB are a help to. I have a couple of standard friction discs in mine to get the clearance.
Pete Merchant (Rochdale Solely Scooters), has some specially hardened 1mm steels
not cheap, but at least won't warp.
Oh and to be honest I got some, and they are a tad too large for basket, so needed a little filing to fit

I'm using the Readspeed 5 plate kit which is designed as a straight fit into standard baskets and components. It's spot on in my 20BHP Imola which no slip or drag. I'd suggest you go with those for under £50 you can't go wrong...
