took the top end off a mate's bike this eve.
it's a Mugello V1, and has a Reaper head.
I've heard mention of these before, but what's the story here ?
does it have a different profile in there ?
looks ok, shame it was held on with nylocs & spring washers... which may have contributed to the blown gasket...

Reaper used to (maybe still do) do some porting and engineering for Cambridge Lambretta.

Jarv, my muggy has a Reaper head, I bought it on ebay back in 2005 I think. The opinion then was that it was a quality job. I hope so coause I just bought another one (used) on ebay yesterday for the SR185 I'm putting together.

so it has probably been with the kit since the start.
just ordered some new gaskets and stuff [on the easy-to-find-parts-now MB site  ], so should be good to go over the weekend.

Early Mugellos came with Reaper heads. The problems arose due to the very high compression ratios that some ome them had . . mine was 11.5 to 1 geometric and some were as high as 13 to 1. I wouldn't recommend using more than 10.5 to 1 on a road bike unless you've raised the exhaust by a considerable amount.

Otherwise OK piece of kit.

Lawrence, I had to buy mine seperately and it is marked Imola/Mugello, do you reckon it would be ok?

Mine has imola on it and the compression ratio. Put it on and squish it and if it doesn't pink it'll be ok. Mugello's like high compression and thats why the early V1's were very fast (well that and the hump in the inlet port that helped cylinder filling)

You could have the chamber volume measured to give you the geometric compression ratio they came in 9.5 10.5 11.5 and 12.5 ratios as I remember. as a rule of thumb you can use 11.5 to 1 with the exhaust raised 1.5mm (well I did any way)

Thanks for that, it's been on my V1 Mugello for a good few thousand miles and I haven't noticed any pinking and I only ever run it on cheep petrol. I'm waiting for the other one to arrive off ebay and that's going on an SR185.
