Femsatronic timing

Firstly may I say that I haven't even had the flywheel off yet on this Rally 200 (working away during the week plays havoc with available scooter time).

Anyway, I have heard that the timing is 24 degrees and that the stator is fixed ie you can't retard the timing. Is this correct? If so, will this present me any problems given the low octane petrol we have nowadays?

The stator is fixed in that you don't have slots that allow you to rotate the stator to retard it, just 3 holes in the stator which the fixing screws pass through. However, these holes can easily be elongated with a dremmel or just hand files so that the stator can then be rotated just like a Ducati one. This what I did when I fitted a Mallossi 210 kit to my Femsa Rally. If you are having problems with fuel than the option is there to modify it and retard it to suit.

Thanks for that. I'm going to have a look at this tomorrow.

If I can, I'm of the opinion to retard the ignition by a couple of degrees, run it, and see how it feels. Is this reasonable in your opinion?

Leave it be man!!
It's standard it'll be fine , unless you're tuning etc.
Ride it and see how it goes if it pinks then adjust but imo you'll be sweet :D

Baz, well it just so happens that I never got to taking the flywheel off and even having a look (left fuel tap on to find an exhaust full of petrol____now virtually at the point were I have to admit that I need to buy a new carb).

I have no plans at all to tune this baby so I'll follow your advise and listen to the engine.

I did mate absolutely blinding, cheers.
Did you change the float valve at all, easy fix if not.
But in all fairness a carb that has stood that long will be very hard to clean out , don't know how good ultrasonic cleaning is?

I've had it ultrasonically cleaned and fitted new float and float needle. I can see that the needle seats correctly when the float rises. There's no sign of the float catching on the walls of the float chamber and it moves freely on the pivot, so I'm at a loss at the moment, mate.

I thought the ultrasonic cleaning had worked at first. It seemed to.

Anyway, I'll have one last fettle, and if that doesn't work, I'll order a new Dellorto/Spaco SI 24/24.
