Just building a 30+ bhp TS1230 but am stuck with the gearing.

I have a pacemaker gearbox with 18-47 giving me a 4.8 final drive. Just wondered how well it would pull, if it will pull the gearing????

Any advice welcome.

Cheers :)

id try 47 17 as the 8500 peak will still make 85,do it regularly and be happier thru the gears and lower speed riding ,be a bit revvy on a longer run though ,the 18 be lower revving for touring but will struggle to rev out and hit its 90+ potential except on a dodgy speedo and will need thrashing thru the gears constantly to pull the next 1

How much power do u think I would need to pull 18-47?

you could pull it easier with less power and a pipe that starts to work earlier in the rev range although a lower rpm pipe will need the 18 gearing to achieve the same top speed as the high rev pipe on 17 so its always a compromise but over the long term is better to have a wider spread/lower power ,the fran starts at approx 5200 depending on tune and its the gear drop between gears that will fall below 5200 on the upshift unless you thrash thru the previous gear to max rpm
