Hi people,is there another piston i can use in a 166 barrel? Asking cos dont really want to pay 100 for a piston..i have a p2 crank i could use so is there a piston with a 16 mm pin i could use? Just looking for a more cost effective way of reclaiming a malossi 166 barrel...thanks in advance..

So presumably you think the P2 crank is a straight swop then?
Good luck with that.

Mate i know the crank is not a straight swap-i have had a good look thru the forum...i also know the px 125 etc is a 15 mm pin and p2 is 16 mm pin etc etc...p2 crank needs modifying to fit-my question was is there a different(cheaper) piston that fits with a 125 crank or a piston that will fit but has a 16 mm pin hence maybe using a p2 crank..i wanted advice/ideas not a c@&*#*h remark! I may be new to the forum but i'm not new to scooters and mechanics-like i said all i wanted was advice-i hope i don't get remarks like yours every time i ask a question or i won't be on here for long ffs!

You asked for a cheap and presumably easy swop so get arsey if you like.
The basic answer is no, if you want to get more involved then maybe there is but I'd still not expect it to be that cheap.

Mate i got arsey cos by your comment was aimed at a young know it all not a 44 year old who actually does know a bit,it was uncalled for and not a very good way to welcome a newcomer to the gang...a guy on here recently asked a similar thing about a Polini 177 and got civil, knowledgeable answers.Anyway i know its a long shot but i thought i'd ask anyway..

considering the rather unique design of malossi pistons as regards the way they are relieved and flowed around the gudgeon pin area to allow a greater transfer capacity ,and the holes in them ..together with the ring peg postion ,compression height and pin size and quality of rings plus skirt length and crown angle etc ,i think you will be very hard pressed to find any alternative at all never mind a cheaper one .
and even if you could find something similar in most respects ,you would still have to spend possibly hours fettling and modifying it ..so its never gonna be a cost effective excercise i fear .
but good luck and plz let us know your results

Sean thanks for the reply mate-looks like its back to the drawing board,i might just have to bite the bullet and buy a piston lol..its always worth looking for a cheaper way of doing things though
