Say you wanted to build a big cc engine over a period of time buying the best parts you could as and when you had the funds. you also weren't sure what the final engine would be, RB, super monza etc.
Also say you were going to get a 150 casing welded up to 200+ to use for the project, are the stud patterns going to be different or would you need To know what kit you were using prior to having the welding done? I think the Super Monza may have a different stud pattern/dowells and requires specific welding?

All casing stud patterns are the same for big blocks....TS1, RB, Super Monza, Rapido, Stg4, Muggello etc etc

I think you'd need to machine the casing further if you wanted to go 250 plus, certainly the RB and rapido have a bigger spigot.

Depends on rod/stroke/packer options.....but potentially a trench in case for long stroke, groove in mouth for long rod and machining for spigot. (or not with long rod/packer).

how viable/cost effective/reliable is the 150 welded conversion against selling the 150 case and buying a 200 case , i know some like to keep originality numbers etc but that surely goes out the window when the case is modded, seen the odd welded stud repair thats not held on high power motors
eg retail price of 200 case £288
150 case value ? £100 or if its a valuble matching number scoot then better to keep it untouched for better future scooter value
weld tap mill port and tidy ? £150 +

The conversion makes sense if you already own the casings and want bigger CC.....but no FINANCIAL sense if buying from scratch. The only other consideration is the usual Lambretta issue, numbers and heritage.....Darrell Taylor wrote:how viable/cost effective/reliable is the 150 welded conversion against selling the 150 case and buying a 200 case , i know some like to keep originality numbers etc but that surely goes out the window when the case is modded, seen the odd welded stud repair thats not held on high power motors

I'm not bothered about the numbers. I think I can get a Spanish 125 casing that's in good condition for £100 off a mate. The cost of taking it up to a 200 is approx £150 so that's £250 in total, plus I can get some more meat added for a future 250+ Kit. Plan is to then build from the rear hub forwards, Tino hub, mb layshaft and so on. I can then decide on what kit and further mods are needed at a later date.
This will take a while to complete, prob a couple of years or more but the sooner I get it started the better. ideally I'd like to go for the super monza but there's some big single component costs there, so will have to see.....
