Does anyone know if the Indian made, not the Ducati ones,by AF Rayspeed are particularly troublesome? I know that they are known for only working properly when used with AFR marked cdi and relative regulators etc.But are they known as one that tends to be troublesome and pretty unreliable? Cheers folks,Speedy.

Hey Up Speedy

I bought the very same stator as AF sell off ebay from dcheapnbest for a mate on a budget

it was stamped SIL and was decent quality (original wiring colours) K2 pick up

working a treat with a pattern cdi and one of the same indian regulators was about £35

Thanks both for that.As regards the pick up.i'm not sure,as I've not had the flywheel off yet so couldn't say.Is the k2 the better quality one I believe that Paul uses on his sil ones at SR.? Cheers.

for me i have purchased all my personal stators (SIL) from Paul at SR

k2 pick ups/LT Coils were standard equipment on SIL and through my experience pretty good compared to many of the other indian ones

I have had 2 SIL Stators fail on me and one BGM one, the SIL ones were what was supplied in the AFR electronic kit. They didnt particularly last very well, bother were low mileage. The BGM ONE failed after many thousands of miles, so I have more faith in these. But, I guess with anything Indian quality is hit and miss as many people run them no problem. So I would say run the SIL stator see how it goes, you might get high mileage out of it, you might not.

Geniune SIL stators are checked and rewired at SR - there are a lot of pattern and SIL copies out there which I believe clouds the issue. - I have a SIL kit that came from SR when they were the only kit available after the demise of the af ducati and its still going strong with a ducati cdi and regulator.(On the SX TS1)

I've never used bgm and probably won't - my new TS1 200 motor been built will use a SIL stator rebuilt with piaggio pick up and LT coil and a slightly lightened and welded SIL flywheel.(Same as my other other GP TS1)

My only problem with SIL stators and flywheels has been the solder broke on the connections - they are araldited now.

I am also convinced that the increased vibration on tuned motors does not help the parts in electronic kits (pick ups and CDIs) I have started rubber mounting the cdi like vespa always have.

Be interesting to who makes BGM stuff and where ? Far east ?

As serveta kid said... "Hit and miss" .. !! either Sil with vespa pick up & lt coil or, Bgm. Personally i would not trust a K2 stator out of the packet or even rewired ever again . Imo

Thanks folks for the thoughts.I must admit that I'm upto the neck with failing stators.Never had issues before as such, but on this motor it'ds been a blasted nightmare. The scoot has the afr stator and a midweight af flywheel, afr indian cdi and indian regulator. Ray's have been good and done loads on warranty.Had loads of issues and then found the crank was twisted. That sorted and 400 mile later the stator goes again.I've had 6 stators in upto now and it still keeps playing up.This ones done 400 mile and gone again. Also been mentioned this weekend that some of the mid flywheels are an issue and causing non reving and misfiring issues.Don't know myself. :(

speedy - looks like you`re having a mare with stators at the minute.

speaking from experience i have had no success with the af lightened or the mid weight on SIL stators

tried both on my gp (SIL stator with piaggio pick up and lt coil - rewired by me) and neither would spark - was running a slightly lightened SIL flywheel before hand and jsut fancied trying them) back to SIL flywheel now

i have seen mid weight ones with arrow in the wrong position (boss positioned one rivet to far round)

had a similar problem with a ducati stator and af lightened flywheel for a mate - fully rebuilt engine - no spark at all - tried my spare SIL kit and it was fine - hes now running a SIL set up which i have checked and rewired.

again all hit and miss .....................dont you just love it !!!
