Lambretta rear hub fitment concerns.

Now then mi ducks,i dunna wish to sound stupid, but I need to ask a simple question.I've not had to fit a rear hub to a Lammy for god knows how long,so AM a tad out of practice. What I am concerned about is I have had to replace a hub after a Schwalbe tyre disaster that wrecked the rear chromed hub.Now that hub was supplied by Rayspeed, but I don't know the manufacturer as there Is no name stamped on the inside. It does have the smaller allen key thread for the locking ring.I now have a genuine sil rear hub to replace it. When I fitted it,i fitted the cone that came with it ,obviously , The cone was fitted with the gap on the centre of the spline and went home flush and true.I fitted the hub and wavy washer then tightened the nutPrior to this i'd lightly rubbed the inner shoe face with emery and the brakes are fine.I undid the nut after tightening and a second time .This was to 100lb/ft.I found the hub wasn't flush with the splines on the layshaft and this sat recessed in the hub by around 3mm/4mm.I've tightened now to 135lb as suggested in the book and all feels well.So should the hub he flush with the splines touching the wheel nut,or is it correct and /or safe to be not flush ? I literally can't remember and the book says nothing regarding it,plus none of my mates have checked when tightening the nut. Many thanks,Speedy.

Think of it like this. If the hub sat flush with the spline ends (or even a gnats winkle lower) Tightening the nut would not hold the hub.

Yes mi duck, all put back as removed.Just never looked at the position of the layshaft in relation to the hub as such. Was more worried at the time that the hub that had been fitted had the smaller threads for the puller and locking nut. I only had the larger 7mm? item used on Innocenti and Sil items. Cheers ,Speedy.

SWo do you mean that it is actually correctly fitted and by being slightly recessed in ,that this will pull the hub tight and hold how it was meant to? Cheers,Speedy.

I mean if the hub sits a little proud of the end of the layshaft splines, all is well.
