Lambretta LI150 Special Tuning options

Hi all.
I just acquired a Lambretta LI150 Special. untouched since new and hasn't been on the road since 1982.
To my question.
Since I've already have 2 standard scoots I would like to do something more with this engine.
I am very temped to go with the racetour from BGM. Maybe combine it with their Clubman If I can find someone to paint it for me.
To the option or questions. I have a spare PHBL 25mm laying around. I plan to add it to this scoot. probably it will be sufficient and I'll need to just jet it accordingly.

The gearbox, is the standard 150 special gearbox good enough for tuning?
Should I resuse the crank?
Should I stick to the points ignition on this setup?

Is I should change the crankshaft, what should I go for?

This topic is to help me see the options I have and test the knowledge out there.

Thanks.

As always you need to decide on a budget then set out a plan from there, for whats its worth a lot of people of late are working to tighter budgets and getting great results (bangs for bucks as Sean likes to call it) and it is very effective indeed, ive done it.
Why not, renew conrod bearings and seals, new clutch plates/springs, chain, rebore good quality piston and mild tune, use your 25 delly or sell it to cover the price of a 2nd hand 30 delly, bet you can do all that for the price of a big kit and have a motor under much less stress and more likely to get you home every time.

Or if youve got plenty of cash, roadside assistance fill ye boots and build a rev monster

1. Electronic ignition £150.
2. GP 200 Race crank. MEC type £120.
3. New bearings and seals £50
4. MB bgm racetour 195 £465
5. MB bgm clubman £220
6. 17 tooth front sprocket £20 [17 x 46 will give you 5.0 final drive, should be nice with kit and exhaust]
7. 81 pitch chain £25
8. Decent chain adjuster £30
9. New 5 plate BGM clutch [Red plates, steels and springs] £50
Your PHBL 25 will work ok for mild performance but you'll get better performance with a bigger carb like 28mm PHBH £150 [carb, manifold, jetting, breath sweet filter]
You can soon rack up £1500 and that's doing it yourself.

And you'll probably twist that crank go BGM 60/110 £280...... Do it before you buy/twist and save £120 :ugeek:

Why would yo advise someone (supposedly uneducated) to spend £495 on a 195 Rt kit when they are totally untested on the road !! (Dyno b@11@x).. Sounds like marketing to me.

Nobody advised anybody to do anything .....

The OP said
I am very temped to go with the racetour from BGM. Maybe combine it with their Clubman
I pointed out what it would cost to upgrade the relevant parts to match the kit.
