Hello. First post on this forum. Recently lost dipped beam on front headlamp. Had old type bulb in, but decided to replace with a halogen one. As I removed the headlamp, I noticed that a white wire had come disconnected, but I don't know where from. I put the new bulb in and then had no lights, no horn (oo er) and no brake lights. Looked on wiring diagram and the white wire appears to have to go to earth. Connected to earth, no change. Scoot starts and runs all o.k Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Scoot is 1965 Lambretta Special with 185 Mugello kit, and 12v electrics, non battery. Thanks

theres two white wires .. one from horn to switch the other connects to the side light/headlight combi terminal to earth

Thanks Ricspeed. I believe that's how I've connected them up. Is there anything that could be faulty for me to lose the electrics, do you know?

a good point....
as the earth to the head set then has to pass though the head bearings and if the earth from motor to frame is s**t your gonna have the same problem .. you could allways add a earth wire from headset to motor

bad earths are generally the cause of most faults ... unless you have a break in your loom somewhere

The white lead that is broken goes to the headlamp adjuster, as said its a crap earth, put a crimp tag on the end and clamp to one of the screws that hold the rod clamps down.

The earth for the bulb holder is only for front lights, so wouldn't affect the horn, rear or brake lights. Either a wires become detached towards the rear or, more likely, you've got a short somewhere. Check headset again for a power wire in contact with earth, or earth wire in wrong socket.

Thanks all. I did put the white lead onto the earth by the control rod,but to no avail. Maybe it is a break somewhere, or a short. I was hoping for an easy solution as all was ok until I changed the bulb!
I don't suppose it could be the halogen bulb that I've swapped a standard one for, could it?

Are there 3 prongs in the bulb holder, two at the back that the bulb touches and one inside that touches the side of the bulb? Bend it in so there's a better fit and maybe try a standard bulb..
