Won't Start

Scooter is an Indian GP with Mugello 186, dellorto 26mm and Indian electronic ignition.

Been fine starting and running well although recently it needed a few more kicks after standing for a day or so. Started it the other day then rode off the curb only for it to stall and refuse to restart. I've tried changing plugs and swapped the Cdi for a new one but it will not start. There's a spark and I've cleared the jets and seem to have fuel. After kicking it over a few times I get a back fire but no sign off it firing up. Have checked the resistances of the green and the yellow wires and they seem ok 460 and 90 ohms.

When I kick it over with lights on they illuminate so the lighting part of the stator seems ok.

Help

Sounds like broken/stuck rings, have you had a 'nip up' recently? the backfire would probably be it blowing past the rings.

Agree, pop the flywheel off easy quick check, once had a woodruff key that part sheared, it was still intact but the part that slots in the flywheel was off set and would fire up but back fire. Took ages to suss it out.

Rings pinched so no compression. Cleaned up the grooves made sure the rings could move freely without chattering and reassembled. Got serious compression but now I've snapped the kick start!

Result 8-) The give away is the backfire which isn't like the riffle shot backfire you get with an electrical fault, is more of a 'wet fart' :?
