Are the Meteor pistons any good to use in a stage 4 Px200 motor?

Wack63

i`ve never had a problem with meteor pistons in any P2`s

i currently have one in my Chiselspeed tuned stage 4 Autisa ali barrel - the barrel was done years ago and has and still serves me well - it was first done with genuine piaggio but at the last bore i couldnt get a piaggio 66.7 so used meteor (they are italian) at having spoken to Martin - the barrel has a large exhaust port (bridged from new but the bridge removed as part of the tune - i have never had any issue with it in relation to the thick rings on either the piaggio or meteor. It is thrashed everywhere it goes and has never let me down - at last rebore it had 4 thou clearance after the bore !!! This orginal piston was perfect when replaced - its now sat with new rings in a another 66.5mm untouched Austisa barrel i have (another rainy day barrel)

i wasnt prepared to loose a bore on such a brilliant barrel - its had the inlets enlarged as per the original supplied Autisa piston (which Harry will openly tell you he got the modification from) The Austisa pistons were notorius for dropping ring pegs so never be tempted to use one even though they are ready done ! There is a piston out there that has the enlarged inlets as Austisa its made by Barikit but i have only seen pictures and uses the thick rings.

I also have a HB tuned Autisa barrel with genuine piston on the shelf - HB also removed the bridge in the exhaust - just reluctant to put it on as the Chiselspeed one has been bvery good to me - possible after IOW !?

Norrie

Regarding thin ring pistons i had a 200 barrel which i home tuned (polished and knife edged ports slight increase in exhaust width nothing fancy - just bored to 67.5mm using a thin ringed piston from one of the indian ali barrel kits - it came from Rayspeed - i only bought it to have a look and it all looks okay - rings were looked at by a friend who used to makes rings and said they were good. i weighed the piston and it was a bit heavier than a stock 200 so compensating for the size increase no issue with weight. I have radiused all the edges, enlarged the inlets and added some lubrication holes to the gudgeon pin tube dont know when i`ll get round to trying it (if ever given the HB tuned is next in line on 66.5mm and then untouched Autisa)
I would have no hesitation in using it if i had to.

Dont ask me to drop it round yours for testing ! but you can have look (at the piston aswell if you want while your there)

Thanks for the info Gaz, I had a word with someone and he said the Meteor is a good piston. They make them for the Imola and I'm sure a Falc I built had a Meteor piston? I also spoke to Harry regarding the German GS piston but I can't repeat what he said :o Anyway Meteor ordered.

Knowing Harry I can imagine what he said ! You won't go wrong with meteor and yes they make imola and falc pistons

Scott at rayspeed had some good results with the cheap thin ring pistons in both indian cast and ali barrels - he tidied up the ports which when you looked at them they needed it. Those on ebay are the same ones 67.5mm 210 and 70mm 225 as in the indian cast and ali kits -looking at them they are a decent quality worth a punt especially if you don't go mad by trying to do to much to the barrel - that's how I looked at it .

Are you thinking of doing a standard barrel tune ?

The Grand Sort pistons are made by Meteor or at least the smallframe ones are. I doubt Falc would use Meteor pistons, far more likely Vertex.

I'm suspect about the ring pins on those cheap indian pistons tho mate at that price?
IMO possibly abit suspect on their Quality??

Has anyone heard any reports on rings spinning past pegs on these???

yep Juan you are correct Falc is Vertex - same mistake as Wack

Norrie

the 210 piston i have looks the same as the ones Beedspeed sell at 68 and 70mm (only from a picture on their site so i cant be entirely sure - but the arrow and size on the crown is done exactly the same and in the same position) - chances are all these oversized thin ringed pistons for P200 are made in the same place in the far east or indian - there cant be a big enough market for a number of companies to suddenly start making sizes that never used to exist.

I was impressed with the quality, weight and accurate size of the piston however that said until its ran i dont know but i would give it a go.
