Hi all, I have had issues with a CDI.
My engine is a standard TV175, rebooted to 2nd oversize.

The electrics are DC, converted according to the popular conversion written here at scooterotica. Wassel reg.

I bought the BGM CDI after reading people's opinions.

On my way home from MOT the scoot died and I realised the spark was gone.

I measured the resistance from the stator and it was all ok. I removed the Green ignition switch wire but no spark. Even tried the green from stator on the mag housing but still none.

Then I replaced the CDI with a spare BGM and the spark was back!

The regulator and CDI are mounted through the jockey brackets.

What could cause a CDI to die after 17km? Vibration? Monday example? Something frying it up while running?

When it happened I was driving quite sensible speeds, around 30mph.

Any ideas?

Is there any change that you have had a short in your wiring recently? The reason I ask is that II also have the wassel DC conversion and a few years ago my speedo light bulb holder shorted out on the top of the fork tube and resulted in a lot of melted wiring in the loom which also shorted the 2nd green wire to earth. Due to time constraints I didn't fit a new loom, I just ran some replacement wires. A couple of weeks later on way to the 2011 C2C, it refused to re-start after a short stop. Fitted replacement CDI (both indian ones) and all was good until I got to the B&B up at Robin Hood Bay where it refused to start again the following morning...CDI dead again Managed to borrow a new Ducatti CDI which lasted for the rest of the trip across and back home to Norfolk. 2 weeks later it died whilst riding and whilst I coasted to a stop I could hear a high pitched whistle followed by a POP I could also smell a burning electronics smell On investigation, there was a 5p piece of plastic blown out of the CDI casing By this time I had purchased another Indian CDI so put that on but it died after a few days. 2nd Ducatti CDI then fitted which did the squeak followed a pop thing and again, a chunk of the casing was missing. I couldn't really see what the problem could be but started to wonder if it could be connected to the melted wiring. Out of curiosity I put my volt meter on the wire from the CDI to the ignition switch (disconnected at the CDI) and was surprised to see there was some DC voltage present I ran a new wire and haven't had any CDI problems since, in fact it's still got the same Indian CDI it finished up with, I have never got round to buying another Ducatti. I don't know why the Indian and Italian CDI's failed in different ways but it's probably due to the fact that the internal circuitry is slightly different.

This may have nothing to do with your problem of course but worth bearing in mind

Thank for the answer coaster. Will def check if my ignition green wire has some voltages on it.
I start to suspect short circuit myself.

I need to tape any possible contact point in the headset buld area.
