I have just replaced my ignition because the key was falling out with a new one, just basic £15 one. I traced all the wires but my horn is hardly audible and now my front lights arent working. I havent changed my earths in fact i put extra earth cables in. Something must be amiss at the headset end. I have looked at the LCGB article but that wasnt that helpful. Can anyone either give me a link to some pics/instructions or tell me what could be wrong.
thanks
PS i have ordered a better ignition but that might not arrive till after my MOT which is only a week away
thanks ppl

have you still got the oe loom fitted, or replaced with a trimmed down electronic one ? what wires have you got coming into the headset ?
have you checked what wires are connected to what for the different key positions ? I've got some notes on what colours get connected on the [Indian] ones I have fitted recently.
where did you get the switch from ?
was there a longer wire on a double [rusty coloured] connection ? this is for power to the horn, but usually easier just to connect the wire already going to the horn to this, it'll need a new bullet on most probably anyway.... the ignition switch shouldn't come into the horn working, unless it is shorting that wire..
and did you change the bullet connectors ? the last three I have fitted all needed the right size bullet fitting on properly...

Bryon, thanks for replying, I bought a cheap one, and have now ordered a better ignition, though not upto the casa sort of standard, its one from scootrs - there "better one". I swapped what i could. All seemed ok but now something is amiss. i must have moved something into the wrong part. I have enough earths but not sure if they are to the right place. My email is druist@gmail.com I would appreciate any info on wiring diags. The ones in Stickys dont seem to apply. I can send you a pic of the wiring if you want to email me that would be great.
PS it was modified in the 80's with a broadhurst beadspeed electronic kit. PX flywheel without fins with a washing machine fan if that helps.

All sorted the earth was brown for the speedo light, i had put that in the live feed. All sorted bar the front brake, which i think is down to the module on the disk brake - ordered one from Scootrs

cool.
I have been using a ScootRS ignition switch for the last couple of years with no problems. It has one less position, so all of the lights are either on or off, you can't run with just sidelights on, but that's not an issue for me, I ride with the headlamp on all the time anyway.
as long as the rear brake light works, you shouldn't need the front for the mot, just don't have any wires connected to it.
glad you got it sorted.

COLIN!!!! Great to see you're here mate. I bought the better Scootrs one, the one that has ignition stamped in Red. The wiring is well different to the cheap one i got, i would certainly appreciate a wiring diag.
Also does anyone have a Scootrs Hydraulic brake, my sensor for my lights broke, i know its not earthing or by wiring. Which is the + and -
