Morning all
Thought it was about time i started a thread instead of lurkin' in the shadows
After passing my test in the early 90's i left the scene and started playing about with and heavily modifing jap sports bikes
Last xmas the lad asked me for a moped for his 17th birthday in July, so i thought id get him an old P range for not alot of money so we could do the farther/son thing on a rebuild
How shocked was i when i saw the ebay prices
Then bug had kicked in by then and the idea of getting myself a scoot so we could ride out together was hatched
After a few months of searching for the ideal project an Indian GP186 reg'd as a 125 popped up with a few goodies bolted on at a very reasonable price

After convincing the boy that he needed a Vespa and that a Lamby will be too unreliable, it was claimed as mine and the search for a P range would continue.
After trying a few mods to get the GP hoofing along and the desire to go faster, i decided i needed a 200 motor as a starting point
A bare GP200 case came up for sale on here that i got and thought id build something up over winter
So back onto ebay to search for some bits to go in it
And i found some fella selling a complete engine fitted with a Rapido 250 top end, 30mm Delorto carb, PM pipe the lot, the fotos were of it fitted into a tatty looking Series 2 and at the bottom of the listing he stated the the whole scoot might go at the right price.
A quick trip up to Norwich and the deal was done
The tricky bit was then telling the Mrs and the lad that i needed 2 lambrettas inside 6 months
Im still in the dog house with the wife and the boy has turned 17 and still aint got a Vespa
s**t happens i supose

I'm laughing as I type this cos it sound a bit like my story.

I also had loads of Vespa’s & Lambrettas through the 80's and had been thinking about another scooter for a few years now but due to kids and work etc etc never got round to it.

Then out of the blue last year my best mate phoned me and said "how do you fancy going to the I.O.W scooter run" (2010). I said "yes why not" thinking that it's probably changed beyond recognition but fancied the p155 up anyway. The only problem was neither of us had a scooter or much money and it was only six weeks away!

I went on eBay and had a look to see how much scooters were!!! Bloody hell they were allot more than I thought! After a couple of days of looking I found a suitable PX200 at a price I could just about afford.

I then mentioned to the wife that I had been asked to go to the I.O.W and rather than the expected “your not going” was met with “ok” Which I took as “Ok go and buy another scooter”.

The next week I told the wife I was just popping out to "LOOK" at a scooter on the Saturday morning and by 12noon was riding it home. Once home not being able to hid the grin from ear to ear on my face she also smiled as she said “that will be in bits in a week and you’ll have a kit on it in two weeks” how well she knows me!

We had a blast at the I.O.W and I now have a Lambretta as well as a PX. Happy days :fb:

The GP's had abit of attention recently and now i dont know if i could handle the stress of my lad learning to ride on it
Ive recabled it, new loom coil and reg, rebuilt the forks with MB progressive springs, mid range tank and fast flow tap, snetterton seat
Image
The 150 gear box has been junked in favour of a GP200 item , new bearings, new clutch and MB uprated springs, new chain, sprockets n tentioner, LTH reedvalve and ram air filter for the 30mm Delly
Ive played around with different sprocket combinations and have settled for the time being on 17/46
Image
Over the winter, the Mugello top ends going off the Mr Broadhurst for one of his reedvalve conversions and abit of a tune then i'll probably revert back to the 18/47 set up

A few things ive noticed between the two is that the S2 seems more planted on the road and for a bigger scoot it actually feels lighter :freak:
The Rapido kit is very thirsty ......which i found out on Sunday on the Rememberance ride to Regents Park
I checked the fuel before i set off to the meet , reconing about a 1/4 left of a 13ltr tank, plenty for a leisurly ride out........WRONG
On the Chiswick High rd the throttle seemed to stick wide open so i had to kill the ignition
After an eternity trying to kick the high compression motor over , it started and ran for about 100 yards before the back wheel locked at about 20mph.......ARSE
Thinking the worst, because ive reduced the oil down to 3% and adjusted the carb up, i thought let it cool down, add some more oil in the tank and then limp it home slowly.
Thats when i spotted the bottom of an petrol empty tank......Doh !!!
As look has it my mate was on duty locally and delivered 12ltr of squirt
How embarassing for a AA patrol to run out of fuel
It gets worse.....as i only had enough oil for 9ltrs so i boshed that on top and set off home with my tail between my legs
Sitting on the M4 at about 60 and only 1 junction from home i thought id open her up a little
Bad move !!!!
Image
Heres me on the exit slip on the M4 J4 about 2 miles from home nursing a seizure  it fired up after about 20mins and i limped my sorry ass home

told the mrs that i was going to name the scooter after our first born and get her name on it....which she goes for.... :D

3 years later the lad is born so one sunday whilst she is tucking into a sunday roast and in what im hoping is the right frame of mind i mention how it would be good to do a scoot for the little lad....and hold my breath....sounds like a good idea she says..... :o ;)

Only issue is i havnt the coin to get that winter model project i want....but at least i have the go ahead from she who must be obeyed.
