What do people recommend to coat the inside of a 1972 Rally 200 chassis to stop it rusting from the inside out ?
Thanks for any replies

I would powder coat the complete scooter and then paint over the top, but leave the inside just with the powder coat. I have found this the best way. Sometimes if there's to much filler, when you screw or bolt anything to the frame it breaks the paint and filler. At least with powder coat as a base it should still be water proof.

Sorry to disagree , powdercoat is hardy but will also harbour moisture entering through hidden cracks and you won't see it rusting underneath the coating till it's too late. I've done a couple of rallys and used products like waxoyl , dinitrol or ankor wax. They need to be coated in all the crevices, seams, shock mount shelf , and you know there's enough when it weeps out of the floor seams (they are only spot welded not seam welded) .
Also use some kind of underseal product.
I have had a 150 super for 15 years, it had a new floor and welding around the shock mount and engine bolt areas when i first got it, and this one is used in all weathers , on the underside and up the wheel arch i painted anti rust primer followed by stonechip guard . It's best to keep the road dirt washed off up there too as it also harbours moisture.

That's good to know. I thought powder coat would seal all the seams ect. I also use the stone chip stuff on the underside of chassis, mudguard and engine bay. I do pour Krust down all the cable channels and inside floor pan.
My latest project just has a clear powder coat over bare metal, but this is just an experiment for a couple of years to see how it stands up and was not to bothered about the creases, dents ect. I will probably return this to its original colour when I get bored of it.

I agreewith cit205, i use waxoil on the underside of the runner boards, under the mudguard and under the engine compartment and suspension mount on my PX200, just paint it on at regular intervals jobs a good un

When I fit my runners I put a bead of gasket paste underneath, this stops any crap getting under the runners and scratching the paintwork.

did a P200 with a SIP replacement frame, basically a new frame. used seam sealer on every seam inside and out, and 3 coats of car underseal , really giving it a thick coat on the seams. one coat under the sidepanels, and mudguard, and lots of waxoil and wd 40 in the chassis. stainless fasteners and powder coat on the stand, cowlings etc., so everything lasted ....then I sold the bugger just after I finished it!
