Rattle P2

My son has just a p2,
Runs and rides ok except for a knocking rattling noise.
Sounds a bit like kick start partially depressed but when we push kick start down with it running there's free play before a slightly different noise joins the other one.
The noise is engine speed related.
My thoughts are piston hitting the head. Big or small end faliure.
Anything else to look for.
