I've got to sort out my Rear brake, it's rubbish!

The weird thing is that every time I re-adjust it (which seems to be very frequent) by tightening the cable (at the pedal end) and/or adjuster (type with a threaded bar), a few presses on the brake pedal and it's gone loose, and pedal goes to the floor easily again!? Thought it might be the cable slipping through at the brake pedal, but this seems to be nice and tight, then I thought maybe the cable is stretching, but it looks good quality, and doesn't seem to be, so anyone got any ideas??

I thought about also trying the Jockey's Bockenstop rear brake kit, once I've got the above problem sorted, as I removed the rear hub today to check wear on brake shoes, and it looks as though only the bottom shoe is rubbing/making contact!! So does any dealer in the UK sell this rear brake kit, or do you have to buy direct from Germany?

By the way, it's a SIL casing with CamLam/Tino Safe Rear hub.

The rear brake pegs in some SIL casings are misaligned i believe i'm sure i read it on here somewhere

it wasnt the pegs but the break cam is off centre on later sil casings ,you can shim one side of the cam to correct this

The Jockeys rear brake is a must have on any SIL case in my opinion. Won't work with the Tino rear hub though - inner diameter is too small.

Thanks for the feedback; it sounds as though the Jockey's kit is definitely the way to go - especially with anyone using a SIL casing.

Unfortunately, I use a CamLam/Tino safe rear hub, so as mentioned, apparently this kit won't work (inner hub diameter too small) - damn

I had another look at this problem yesterday and, as mentioned, the top shoe isn't actually touching the hub (could see from lack of wear marks), so I made up a small shim (about 2mm) on the back cam to move this (top) shoe a bit closer. This modification, along with using the technique of holding the rear brake arm on firmly with a cable tie, whilst pulling the cable through at the pedal end, seems to have given me a firmer pedal, which doesn't go soft/loose after a few presses.

I'll give a bit more feedback on this then I've road tested, but personally if I didn't have the CamLam rear hub, I'd just go and buy the Jockey's kit, as there is so much good feedback out there about it.

Thanks Ricspeed, as per my posting above, shimming the brake cam (and adjusting the brake cable with the technique mentioned above) worked!

I've been out on my Super Monza today, and I'm pleased to confirm that I now have a working back brake!!
