200 Engine With T5 4th Gear?

I think I've heard of people mention fitting a T5 4th gear to a 200 engine, is this right or have I just imagined it?

I have a standard 200 engine which I may be taking apart for servicing soon and I have a T5 gearbox. Is this something I should think about, is it a straight swap, why is this done and what are the benefits?

If I have imagined this please ignore all of the above

Cheers.

Just rebuilt a p2 engine with a t5 fourth gear from what I gather it reduces the gap between 3rd and 4th gear while allowing it to keep momentum for longer on uphill inclines before having to change down into third

Does it increase the final drive ratio so you would keep the revs up but loose a bit of top end and is it a straight swap?

P2"s have quite a long 4th gear, great if ones up and the wind behind you, not so great if you hit hills, have a pillion or are a fat b@5t@rd. a bit ot tuneing , or a pipe, and it drops away the same. fit a T5 4th gear ( or a px125 EFL 4th gear ) and you will keep in the revs. i run P200EFL gears, 23-68 and a T5 4th on mine. one thing ive found, is most lammy lads, will change their gearing to suit, but vespa whallers just soldier on out of the revs....

Basically what goldeneye says is correct, Im a big chap and have put a kit and revolver pipe on so it was suggested for these reasons that a t5 fourth gear be fitted, I believe you do lose a couple of mph of topend speed but so long as you aren't up n down the box soon as you hit an incline so what, and yes its a straight swap for the p2 item

I was always led to believe that a 23/68 primary set up wouldn't mesh properly........... you had any problems?

You won't notice any slower top speed becuase P2s are relatively tall geared. On the dyno you could hold one open and it would do 80 plus eventually. You can't rev them out on the road which is why sometimes they do reach very good top speeds. This then becomes the pub bragging speed of the bike and surely where ridiculous P2 top speed myths come from :D They're not lying when they say it did 80 but it was once, and with a force9 tail wind.
What you will see is it dying a little less up hills and into headwinds and be most noticeable 2 up. Goldeneye has summed it up perfectly. Very rare I build a motor with a p2 fourth now.
