SSC 5 Plate Clutch

Just fitted a NK to my Imola instead of the scoot rs pipe ( which I was never keen on ) and What A Difference !! :bigsm: I nearly put it into the kerb twice within a mile
the only downside is that the clutch is now really struggling. It is beedspeed motorcross plates and vespa springs type. Has anyone used one of those SSC 5 plate conversions. They have been recommeneded to me ...anyone else ??
Its screaming at now at 70 + with not that much of a difference between 3rd and 4th so I should start up gearing as well now is it ? I am no gearing expert sorry . 16 tooth front sprocket is my first option I suppose . I`ve got a pacemaker box fitted
Cheers for any help

Which NK pipe did you fit mate? I'm thinking of using one with my Imola engine. Some feedback would be appreciated Pete.

Its the road / rally version, minimum fettling to get it to sit nicely and a quality item .
Just hope it lasts a while Pity I had to paint it as I don`t think there a high temp clear laquer . No doubt I`ll be corrected.
I coudn`t wait to get it painted and fitted anyow

I had SSC clutch fitted to my Monza, but was not impressed, would not last 100 miles. Went back to updrated springs on std.
It was a lovely clutch, smooth and progressive, but my 20st and franspeed race worked it too hard I think. Several sets of plates and supposedly updrated springs but never got the confidence I wanted in the SSC
Maybe AF road cassette clutch would be your bet bet ?

Cheers for that mate , I`ve had a look at the clutch in my hand and it does look quality .
I`ll have a look into the AF one if they are around the same ballpark price .

I'm running a tuned Imola too. I spent ages messing with 5 plate clutches and i never got one to work. I reverted back to a standard clutch with MB springs and BGM plates. It works perfectly well and copes with the 20BHP my engine makes. Sometimes i think we look beyond a decent standard set up for fancy set ups when theres no real need too.

the ssc clutch is ok for lower hp and if you do not drive hard, it is much better to have a clutch that can cope easily (overkill) rather than one that will cope but only just,
buy the best you can afford every time in every circumstance! buy cheap and you will most certainly buy twice!

Cheers for the replies , looked at the AF cassette option so I`ll also look into the BGM plates and MB springs combo, it`ll have to come out next time I`m home now anyhow.
I`ll probably go up one cog on the front sprocket at least ....I think .
It was was fine for gearing with scootrs pipe ( pacemaker and 15t sprocket ) but its a totaly different beast now.

I've had a ssc 5 plate and ruined it
I now run an af cassette one. I actually have one of each type. They are bulletproof and mint!
