need to drill hole through painted metalwork

as it says. I have a mk1 px and am changing it to hydraulic front brake. Any hints or tips on how to drill through painted mudguard for the hose without making too much mess of the paint.

Stip a strip of masking tape (*several side by side would be good) that will stop the drill from slipping. use a small pilot drill and increase the sive of the hole in stages. Use shapr drill bits as blunt ones will cause heat which could blister to paint.
