I think i read some where on here only certain MEC cranks need piston shims fitting, can some one tell me which do and dont?
Cheers,

If it has shims at the big end then it doesn't need any at the piston.

If I were you I'd spend whatever it costs and put in a better crank instead. I don't know what the budget MEC race crank costs now (about £120 last time I looked) but if you sell what you have it shouldn't be a massive extra investment to get a race crank, but the better big end bearing and no need to use piston shims will be worth the extra, even in a stock motor. I might even have a race crank to flog if you want one.

I'd let Harry Barlow (Pro Porting) do it
Harry uses Japanese silver-caged bearings but obviously which one depends on the pin and rod you are using.
