please remove from your heads the convetional position of exhaust and carb position before answering this question. is there any reason why i cant rotate a cylinder and piston round through 180 deg and the motor not work ?. this is a serious queston and would help with my latest and most rediculous cylinder conversion to date. cheers simon

well in theory yes it would work .. but ..the studs would not line up (unless you weld and move)also the transfers would not line up

ric, i should have added, just the up and down movement of piston, thrust affects ect.. stud and tranfers wont be an issue with this one

. and cheers simon

I seem to remember some of the smallframe Vespa kits work like that.
I also remember reading about a Brit scooter that used a generic villiers type engine but it had the cylinder rotated to fit.

as long as the piston is rotated accordingly .. yes it will .. not sure id want a carb at the bottom though

read the first post again

, after a dry build this aft and a bit of trimming off the inlet i can get the cylinder on without having to rotate the top end through 180deg. all will be revealed shortly
