what year does a lammy need indicators from? cheers

i think u find anything in the uk from 1980 is meant to have them

As far as I know, indicators became compulsory fitment on scooters & bikes made after August 1986 (D Reg).
However, you don't have to have indicators at all.
You often see modern trail bikes, steetfighters etc without them fitted.
If they're fitted, they must work but there is no legal requirement for them to be fitted at all.
(you don't actually even need lights to pass an MOT - you just get a 'daytime' MOT issued (& you must have a brake light)).

You don't need any lights for a 'daytime' MOT.

u sure on this ? i thought it was a legal req to have indicators on any bike reg 1980 onwards ?

I was told by my local mot station that 1986 lambrettas "fitted with indicators when built" must have them retro fitted to obtain an m.o.t. certificate now and wont even book you an appointment if you can't meet this .

Then your test station is wrong Butch.
All scooters/bikes after somewhere in '86 must be fited with indicators to obtain a full MOT.
Road law also requires these to be fitted.

A scooter/bike (or car/van for that matter) can be issued with an MOT that states on the advisory section,
'no lights fitted at time of test.'

And that means NO lights at all, no brake light either.
If any lights are fitted it must be tested and ALL lighting requirements must be met.

If it is presented, and the tester is told that it is only used during daylight hours, it will pass the test with the covering 'advisory notice' issued.
You ARE NOT permitted, and we consider it taking the p155 to pull up for an MOT and start taping up/unbolting lights and covering switches.
You will be issued a refusal to test for the shear fact you are abusing a loophole in the system.

All 'daytime MOT's' as people call them, are exactly the same as a normal MOT, and no where does it state that you cannot ride at night.
If you refit lights after it is issued, and get caught riding at night, it may look dodgy on yourselves were the police to look at the MOT in paper form or online, and you will will most likely be breaking some law somewhere.

All vehicles with no lights that are tested do HAVE to have a horn fitted for test, squeaky bulb horn for pre '73 only.

There is also another small get out clause that allows lights to be fitted at the time of test, and no indicators.
That is a vehicle used mostly for off road events, fitted with knobbly tyres and a single seat.


There will be more in depth things that will need clarifying, but that should keep you going for a while :anbrgin;

Sorry - DigDug you are correct about not needing a brake light for daytime MOT.

That's the date for sure! Anything reg'd post that date must have them: the streetfighters have micro ines you cannot see till working and ones integrated into the tail light unit, trials + MX daytime MOTs.
