Hi all, I'm looking to put a conventional type Elec ignition set up on my imola.

It has a Variatronic at the mo that is causing issues that I can not fix.

What would be the best set up to run as a replacement for the variatronic set up please, I do not wish to lose any power if poss??

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

8 years all year round ridin, at high and low speeds -with a simple mb reworked indian electronic stator : i,d buy another when this one dies, but its never let me down, save your wedge and keep things simple.

OK so a reworked MB Stator is the best option then to replace a Ultimate Variatronic?

You could do a lot worse than a BGM stator. They're reasonably priced and look to be well made. If you feel the urge, they're easy to convert to DC. If you want variable timing as per the varitronic then an Agusto or something similar will do the job.

What's your issues with the Varitronic?

Mine was fine for several years but it started playing up - started cutting out intermittantly then got so bad it starts for a second or so then cuts out. Replaced everything bar the stator and flywheel. I'm also considering binning it as it's expensive to fault find when all my other bikes are normal A/F/BGM/Ducati/Wessel set-ups.

Re-worked AF indian elec stator on one (LT and pick-up replaced by genuine piaggio ones), and a complete vespa PX stator refitted to lambretta plate on my other. No issues for years since i did that.

Have heard enough bad things about BGM stators to put me off despite the quality appearance.

A lot of people moan about indian stators but I think the main problem is them coming into the uk from less reputable sources ,I have fitted quite a few indian ignitions the genuine ones I have got from scooter restorations have given no trouble, the ones from parts fairs an ebay seem to fail a lot.
my most reliable ignition is an original ducati electronic flywheel and a p2 stator mounted on a lambretta stator casting , so my choice would be a indian flywheel an vespa stator

Anyone know who sells these, I'd go for the BGM ones but they are stupidly expensive omho.

I don't think I've ever had a problem with SR kits. It's very tempting to get the next big thing that's going to cure all your ignition woes, but there's a lot to be said for the old adage. If it ain't broke...

Thats the problem.... I'm not really sure. The symptoms are as follows: it seems to run find when cold but as it warms up it starts to miss fire and hold back. It did thgis last year and I tested the stator cold and it was out on the readings that I was given off the paper work so I bought a new stator, changed the plug and it was fine. i have only done about 4-500 miles and now it is doing it again.

thats why I am asking about a replacement system... as if it breaks down whilst I'm riding it with a std style system then at least I can borrow a coil or stator and get going again.... I can't do that with what I have now.
