ok,so I have fitted my new top end, put inlet manifold on, and just wanted to push carb on to see how it all fits and get the orientation of hose clips etc right
the carb is running downhill, its at maybe 20-30 degrees?
is this normal?? surely the float levels will be all to cock like this
what have I got wrong, assume its wrong manifold??
mugellokit,mb manifold, 28phbh carb, fitting question

When you say pointing down hill do you mean pointing to floor or pointing towards the toolbox ? If it's pointing towards the toolbox (upwards )then it's correct, mb manifolds are of good quality.

the carb is pointing downwards, the inlet is higher that the outlet of the carb, and the inlet "flange" isnt square to the centre lineof the frame either.
will try and get pics, but I expected the carb to sit level ie top of float bowl parrallel to engine mounting bolt, and square to the frame.
if you put a rod through the bore of my carb it would point upwards and forwards
oh the joys of building something that you know nothing about

heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it does fail, hit them with it!!!

If the rear of the carb is pointing down towards the barrel, that is fine. I cant remember the exact angle but they are able to run at quite a high angle.

That's quite normal Tony, I have a Mugello manifold on my Rapido top end and it is exactly the same.
The downdraught configuration gives a straighter path to the inlet port and therefore is more efficient and gives more power (at least that's the theory  )
Here's a couple of pics of the Mugello manifold mounted on the engine:

Ok thats great spent over an hour googling images last night and couldnt find a pic of myggello with carb installed
still seems wrong but if its "normal" then panic over
Great looking engine by the way.

"Concentric" type carbs were designed so they could be used on a variety of different models and angles without having to re-engineer and have a model specific float chamber.
I think the Amal version claimed up to 30 degrees up/down draft? Presumably left/right too.

Tony, it is completely normal. Dellorto themselves state that the PHBH carb can be tilted at an angle of 45 degrees in this way. Dont Panic!!!
Take a look at a PHBH on a malossi manifold on a vespa, its more tilted than the lammy manifolds.
