tyre on rim

Got the LML on the road now, took it for an mot today...it passed :bigsm:
However I got an advisery on the front tyre, as it doesn't sit in the rim properly, I did notice that the front end was abit jumpy (I thought it might be the front shock!). I put the tyre onto new rims. My question is how can I seat the tyre properly? Would a bit of lube around the rim sort it? :lol: oh err!

Doesn't putting air in it normally seat it properly?

How 'unseated' is it?

Not on this occasion. I did notice it wasn't quite right when I assembled it, but thought it would adjust under pressure.

i usually put a little lube (fairy liquid) on the tyre when fitting to the rim then pump it up to a lot higher pressure than it will be then let it down to the correct pressure

I use talc and bounce and spin the wheel with no air then with high pressure before letting it back down to the right pressure. It's not a new tyre that came supplied with the LML is it ,they're supposedly awful and need changing straight away before you find a ditch anyway.

This doesn't sound good. Take the tyre of the rim, before you have a blow out. Firstly buy a Michelin or Continental inner tubes and tyres or buy the best you can afford.
When you replaced the tyre did you use the same inner tube. If so pump up the inner tube out of the tyre if the tube bulges out to one side, your tube is done. Always buy a new tube with a new tyre, check rim for any damage, if so throw away the rim. These parts have to be perfect otherwise you are taking a massive risk.
The best way to fit a new tyre and tube is, put a very fine film of grease on the rim, fit tyre, fit tube, pump up tube until it fits inside the tyre or loses all the creases ect., fit other side of rim, fit washers nuts ect and tighten diagonally. Don't tighten each nut all the way, this will only damage the rim or the thread. With this process make sure the rim has not nipped the tube, but by putting a little air in the tube, this should stop this from happening. The two wheels are your only contact with the road so look after them. It obviously wasn't that bad or you would have failed your MOT.

:shock: Don't put grease on a tyre or rim or get any on a tube, it could damage the rubber and it will stop the tyre gripping the rim as it won't go away.
If you need lube use talc or proper tyre soap.

definately dont use grease or fairy liquid on assembly - i have seen tyres move on rims when grease is used

as cit205 said tyre soap - mind i never thought of talc - good one !

i would take it off and reassemble

i always assemble carefully then inflate to about 10-15 bounce and spin the wheel then inflate to 30 bounce and spin again then adjust to correct pressure and fit

some tyres are harder to assemble than others - from experience S1`s are tight on the rims but once inflated and using the spin and bounce method they are fine

hope this helps and you get sort - its tyres they are important

out of interest what tyres are they ?
