Hi people i have bought a clutch from a trader.I was expecting a genuine piaggio one but what turned up was cheap copy. Pretty sure its been used before the little bag that they usually come in was open, It has scratches on the back plate. Thinking it had just been returned by someone that ordered the wrong clutch and sent it back. I fitted it took it for a short run didnt like the way it was working . So i took it back out and fuge me a crack in the wooduff groove. All so there is no brass shim. surley it should have shim? :wtf:

yes it should have a shim - both early and cosa type need a shim (they are different shims)

the currently available cheap complete clutches (early type) i have seen have spring cups with holes in them

in genuine there is a hole in the basket and the backplate which should line up - the one i saw didnt

i also noticed that the brass shim was very thin and rough compared to the genuine piaggio one

that said - i stripped it - the plates where pretty good but dry (so soaked them), i replaced the shim and springs, rebuilt it and it has been fine and was still relatively cheap - not sure how good it would have been if it had gone straight on and what the long term life will be like

This has the holes that line up but its not a piaggio clutch. I soaked the plates for a couple of nights and tourqed it up correct. I`ve sent it back to the dealer. :flaming:

the one i have in the P200 is a "Kace" indian clutch from Beedspeed, with uprated springs, an old style 3 plater (2 and a half plater really) you"ve gotta soak all new vespa clutches as a rule, and this was no exception, but after an initial couple of hundred miles of being snatchy-ish , not excessivley so, its bedded in and has been fine for 1000"s of miles now. i got sick of s**t Cosa clutches ripping the rivets out, and being a pain to set up, so have went back to using old style clutches on every engine now.
