Adding Battery to a Wassell DC conversion

Right then electrical peeps!,
I have done the DC conversion with the wassell rectifier & now want to add a battery.
I intend to connect the battery directly to the 12v output from the wassell & then connect via the ignition to lights etc!
My question is re the location & size of the fuse. Should this be connected to the +ve or -ve side of the battery, as I have seen various pictures where the fuse is connected on either side. If its on the +ve side should it be between the wassell & the battery or between the battery & the feed to the ignition/lights etc?
I guess the rating of the fuse will depend on the current drawn by lights etc?
:wtf:
