Needs the choke to run ?

looking about on here, could it be that my drive seal has worn ? Scooter starts with full choke and when warm will only run with the mixture screw all the way in and the choke held 1/4 open and held by hand in that possition. This is about as good as I can get it to run. I replaced the piston and rings, HT lead, Plug, fuel tank, cleaned carb out, and replaced the air filter. Its a bit smokie think I put to much oil in, may of over done it as was worried with the new piston and rings! anything else I should think about before pulling it all apart for the seal as don't want to go backwards again as rusteration nearly finished ( I hope)

Its more than possible that your drive side seal is worn . How does the plug look ?
Wet and Oily I would say your seal is blown .

hi rotor, had a similar problem to yours when i ran a jetex 22mm carb on my stage 4 200cc, i set the mixture screw to a 1/4 turn out as suggested on the side of the carb but found it ran much better set between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns out, might be worth a try, hope this helps & you get it sorted, good luck ! db67 ;)

needing choke all the time can be a sign of a blocked pilot jet or mixture screw circuit/gallery so remove mixture screw and pilot jet and blow out both ways
but yours sounds like your fuelling an air leak
try spraying the inlet manifold and base gasket area with wd40(on a cold engine and pipe) to see if the revs settle for a moment as it draws it in

rev its tits off or stop?
Just splutters to a stop as if turning fuel off.

will try the WD40 trick too if I can get it runnning with out stalling (think it will need a clothes peg on the choke knob)
Also think I'll take off the carb and clean it all out and the Jets again then (cant hurt easy job)
maybe I should add its an 1960 LI125 and all new gaskets as well. with good compression.
might have to wait till new year now though :fb:
