Extra thick chain case gasket.

Hi all, I've purchased an extra thick chain case gasket to try and get a bit more clearance on a 5 plate clutch. The problem is it's so thick my kickstart won't engage 1st gear to turn the engine over. I was thinking of extending the slot in the kickstart shaft where the engager sits so it comes out a bit more. Is this a good or bad idea? Any advice very welcome. Pete.

Personally I thinks its a bit dodgy Pete.
If you extend the slot then the "engager" pokes out more and is therefore not as well supported by the shaft housing. The "engager" then may have a tendency to rock slightly when the kickstart is used, and may IDC break its housing with the inevitable result.
Don't know what the cure is though
Chris

I had to get a bit more clearance with mine - I carefully ground away a small amount of material from the kickstart shaft where the top clutch plate had been rubbing, and fitted an extra washer under the circlip on the ouside of the case, to pull the shaft fully into position. Only used a standard gasket, all seems OK.
