30 32 35mm ??????????????????

Out the box TS1 225, JL3 pipe, need some advise on the best carb size for everyday use, not bothered about fuel comsuption just want a nice ridable scooter.

24mm mikuni, but no bigger than a 28mm

I know of 5 TS1's all with 5 different carbs (all be it one is a TS1 200)

They all go well enough; but the best on a combination of performance, spread of power and a reasonable fuel return is fitted with a TMX 32.

The others are Dellorto VHSA 32, Mikuni TMX 35, PWK 30, Dellorto VHSB 34 - all are flat/D slide carbs

I'm sure somebody will be running an Amal 34mm powerjet and think that's the best too, different strokes for......

A couple of the lads I know have used the 35mm Mikuni and claimed it was too big and now run on 30mm Mikuni's....Ive run my TS1's on Amals 30, 32, 34mm.... Dellorto PHBH 30mm..... Dellorto flat slide 32mm....All gave reasonable performance...PHBH gave best MPG... the34 Amal ran well and gave better MPG than the 32mm flat slide dellorto....but IMO the Dellorto 32mm flat slide was the best overall regards Performance, smooth power delivery, top speeds, and fairly good MPG, about 45 mpg normal riding, when ridden hard about 38 mpg.....But I have never used the Mikuni on a lambretta... Although I have used them on Jap 2 strokes....

Come on someone tell me why you shouldn't use a 24mm or 28mm, i know cezeta has run a 32mm and a 35mm and he wants to go to the 28mm.

No reason why you cant run a 28mm carb... It should respond well as the air speed through the venturi will be fairly high...so it should atomise the fuel cleanly....I would expect it to give a decent BHP figure too...not too sure about a 24mm though....

I find the TM28 Mikuni very difficult to dial in. So difficult that I don't sell it or recommend it to others. I struggled with one on a TS1 for many thousands of miles before finally giving up. On paper it looked like it was an ideal match but I've enjoyed the engine much more with the TMX35. That's not to say that smaller TM or TMX carbs can't work well. The TM28 is sort of the oddball of the TM/TMX family

Tried a 30mm dellorto,cudnt wait to get it off....went to a Tmx 35 Mikuni....love it to bits...so easy to set up!
