I have stripped my Mugello kitted sil engine down and found the flywheel bearing so loose on the crank that it fell off. So my question is do I:-

a) Get the standard Indian crank rebuilt with an upgraded rod which I have been told would cost £180 or
b) Buy a MEC crank for about £120. or
c) is there another option?

I have heard that the Indian cranks are strong but the rods and big ends aren't so great and similarly I have heard that MEC cranks tend to twist. Money is an issue so I can't just go with the most expensive option otherwise I'd just buy a better crank to start with.

It's only a 186 with 26mm dellorto and box pipe so it's not big power...

Ive got a Mec Race crank in my TS1 225...costs about £120 like you say. Been in for 4 year now....no problems with it at all

SIL cranks with a Yam 110 rod are a good option but cheaper than you state.

I've not heard about MEC cranks twisting. The pin is very tight up to about 10 tons to press, I've been told.

I was given the price of £180 by a well respected company when I called this morning and advised that this would produce a better crank than a MEC.
Where can I get the rod done on my crank and how much should it be?

IMO it's best to get a rod fitted local to you. If you get a rod fitted miles away, by the time it's been thrown around a couple of post rooms, it could be out of true by the time you get it back.

If you already have Indian GP200 webs, then it should not be anywhere near the amount you've been quoted. I've had a couple fitted and balanced at Grampians in Liverpool, and neither has cost more than £100, including the cost of buying the Indian crank.
