Prefer a bit of real patina myself but i can see why some would like it, guess it came over from the aircooled vw scene like the rat look came from the bike world originally .
I'm not sure it would look too good on the plasticky modern mopeds as it doesn't on things like VW Golfs but that GL or Sprint in Scootering mag a few months ago doubed in it looked ok :|

I am of the same opinion as your good self, but this look would grab my attention a lot more than an unimaginative clone restoration, ridden not hidden look for me every time.

I have a problem that I think many of us suffer from. I make things "Too" nice. As a result I can't just ride a scoot to the market and leave it sit for fear it will get nicked. So, for a daily driver/beater this product would be fantastic.
I lived in Venice Beach Ca, where lowrider bicycle culture is HUGE. I had a rusty Schwinn beach cruiser with a springer front end and insane Ape hangers. Dudes with 4,000.00$ lowrider push bikes went ape s**t for my "Rusty". I could have sold it any time for 5 times what it cost me. I'm just sayin.....
