Hello all,

Can you convert a P200 for DC / Battery operation using a Wassel regulator? I've done a couple of Lambrettas and been very impressed. Decent lights and being able to run a satnav or charge my phone is bloody handy.

Cheers

Can't spefically help you with a PX (not a classic scooter IMHO) but I've got a wiring diagram for 5 wire PX conversion with Wassel on a M1 (kill switch under seat) Rally 200. I'm currently on the road but will try to dig it up when I get back in front of a laptop.

It should be straight forward enough but you might need to change the flasher relay to a DC type as WLAN as the horn of course.

The horn is already DC on battery / elestart models. The lights are still AC but good anyway ,and you could run accessories like chargers /cig lighter socket/ satnav off that system as it is i would think ,the battery is pretty big and does nothing else but elestart and horn so it's not exactly overloaded.
Also the regulator on battery models has an extra port iirc.

I could if it was electric start or had a battery ;)

what year is yr P2? I've converted a couple and the trick has been getting the headlight sorted. On a '79 I ended up using a small relay to actuate the light when the key swith is on. Trailtech do a reg/rec with a built in relay that switches the circuit on when it sees voltage charging the battery, ie. when the bike is running. It's pretty trick.

What was the issue with the light?

Its not actually a P2, just a P2 engine in an old Vespa. As such there aren't any indicators etc. The engine must be fairly new since it was originally oil injection.

Do you modify the Stator in a similar way to a Lambretta one? i.e. just disconnect the earth and run it up to the Wassel Regulator. I'm in the middle of a complete rebuild and so I can do more or less what I like with the loom.

Cheers

yep, that side of the wiring will be the same as per the lambretta conversion.
Doing a Rally next month, that I converted to P2 electrics a couple of years ago.
wish that old thread was still available...
