Best degreaser?

Probably been asked before, but I've never seen as much oil infested muck on an engine before. Only good thing is that the paint on the cowlings is excellent, when I can get to it.
Any suggestions on how to clean it? I've been using anti-seize fluid and it does loosen it up, but slowly.
Thanks.

I've got a can of Lydian which I've found to be very effective.

I use every day Brake cleaner, gets rid of all the grease no messing. available from most auto care centres. but dont get it on any paint work, ideal for engine casings etc.

Does Gunk still exist?
I used to use that on my engine case, and all round everywhere under the back end. Spray on.. wash off. Easy.

Halfords stuff came out best in a Practical Classics test.
I read it in the newsagent whilst wearing my favourite anorak.

petrol if ive got some spare in a can, was going to say cheaper than propriatry brands, but then again! failing that white spirit / meths. have to reiterate great care should be taken when using these i.e fumes/fire.
