Having just read an article in MCN regarding a new fuel due to be on our forecourts later this year with an increased ethanol content from 5% to 10% and the issues this may cause to components does anyone know how it may affect our older beloved two stroke engines ?

Yeah, I read something in the paper a few weeks back. It seems this is coming in and there's nowt we can do about it. Use the "search" function and type in "Ethanol" there's plenty of information just on this site. Maybe also look on the LCUSA site as a lot of States over there (if not all?) have had 10% for a while.

Top advice thanks stork foot. LCUSA forum mainly sighting issues with floats and float needles in the carb causing them to flood with petrol. Others concerned with two stroke oils not mixing well with it and seperating. No major blow ups mentioned so shouldn't be too bad. Still one to watch though as they may also have a reduced octane level. Said to be sold alongside normal fuel at 5% so stick with what we know for as long as possible

Unfortunately not mate it isnt mine anymore. Ill get the issue number that it was in though and see if its available on back issue. Im surprised its taken this long to hit our pumps though, i think the article was a little over two years ago and it wasnt expected to be long before the 5% max was upped.
