Took the alloy handles off and am soaking the shaft area with plus gas. Not convinced this is going to work. Don't really want to use heat. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Never been lucky enough in the past just soaking them always needed heat ! I take it you've got a series 1/2 ?

if you have a vice .. put the flats of the shaft in the vice .. plently of oil and holding the panel ease them back and forth a little at a time .. if damageing paint is no concern use heat also

definitely heat and lubrication. I have had luck with heating and turning with the inside spring lever attached to a pair of vice grips.

Read about a product in a vintage motorcycle mag, I believe it's called freez. It's a mix or penetrating oil and freeze spray, that shrinks the (in this case) shaft thus cracking the seal, thus allowing the penetrating oil to get in and finish the job.

It's very expensive so another way to acheive this may be to use a freeze spray (like plumbers use) and then finish off with plus gas.
