Scooter started this morning then stopped 5 mins from home totally dead.

As in hurry walked it home got in car then off to work.

Had a look tonight as it wouldnt start at all in the morning.

changed and checked plug then cdi , one of the wires the third was loose so crimped on a bit tighter.

got advised to leave end other green wire out of cdi and started first time!!

However on turning and removing key would not turn off.

put cable in turned off but would not start with wire in???


So ive left the wire out so i can use it every morning but cant understand what the problem is with the end wire on the cdi. Was the same with brand new spare cdi also

Only thing ive done since it was fine was give it a real good top to bottom clean with gunk and jizer in the engine when it was on side so i could get underneath and put new part plug in having hosed down in normal way after cleaning.

Does it mean ive got water some where ??

That last green is your kill wire. When it is in place, AND you use the key, WHEN it is wired correctly, it shuts off your motor.
Pulling that green wire out allows the motor to run, regardless of the key or not.
The fact that you touched it back together and the motor died and would not restart says that somewhere in the routing of that wire, it is touching metal, grounding out, and causing a no spark situation.
Check for cracks or bad connections in the wire at both ends and report back.

Yep, x2 on that diagnosis

Another likely cause is water in the ignition switch, as mentioned above, the 2nd green on the CDI is the kill wire and it works by shorting the ignition to earth (the frame) the voltage being shorted is quite high and doesn't take much to arc across. Once it has arced it might have burned a track to earth inside the switch no amount of drying out will help. You could try squirting some WD40 in through the key hole, with luck it will work but if not then a new switch might be required.

The problem was the after market alarm and imobiliser which is wired into the main elecrtic system

All sorted now thanks to those for the possibel causes which were checked in the first instance.
