Hi all , a mate has just fitted some lovely black SIP rims to his lammie .... look great..

Then he rings me to say the Caliper on the front hydrualic brake has gouged/scratched the rim as its too close as the wheel goes round BLOODY HELL..

Any ideas ? and has this happened to anyone else with SIP rims , thanks

Rich :?

He'll need to file some material off the back of the caliper. There's plenty of meat there. I've done it before but not on SIP rim but I did have the foresight to dry fit it first to check for such issues. I've got a new Saigon scooter centre peoperpot disc brake that won't fit on any rim without fouling.

I've got one of these (highly recommended, btw). It wouldn't fit in my stove enamelled front rim. But it did fit ok in an unpainted italion one.
With a bit of sandpaper round it, it was fine.

You probably thought of this.. but please don't cry. ;)

I had the same problem with AF rims and a ScootRS disc brake. I had to take some metal off the back of the caliper and it was fine afterwards.

cheers all , going over to see whats happened to it all this afternoon . sounds pretty straight forward to sort .

Think the rim may need polishing on its edge maybe ..

thanks so much

Rich :)

Thanks everyone sorted it last night , scoot RS disc and caliper .. the moulded alloy on the back of the caliper touched the bevelled edge of the sip alloys...
The magic tool came outta the tool box again "Dremel" rounded the edges as they was very square , little bit of gold paint to touch up and fixed. Re-fitted the rim but it will need polishing again on the edge after being scratched .
Works ok now and looks really good .

always a pleasure getting good advice of you guys keep it up...

Rich
