Going to buy the SIP digital speedo and wondering how/where to mount the magnet. I've got sip tubeless rims and a scootrs disk brake. I'd appreciate it if someone who has mounted the magnet could post a picture. The SIP site detail is poor.

Hi David, I am just in the process of fitting my SIP speedo. I decided to make a bracket to pickup the wheel studs on my rear hub. I have done a dummy setup (the engine is out the scooter at the moment) and it worked very well. I have the active sensor that SIP sell (the one with the blue light) so no magnet needed and very easy to set the distance from the wheel stud to the sensor. I made a bracket from a solid peice of aluminium:

and drilled and tapped the rear shock mount. The only thing I have to check is that the gear tie rod doesn't hit the bracket in fourth gear. :D (if it does out comes the file again).

good luck with your installation.

If your hub has a speedo drive then you don't need a magnet - just run it off the cable.

Very nice set up Minority. My scootrs disk is 1st generation. The speedo worm gear is toast and they have since modified the part. I either upgrade to their new anti-dive version and use my existing speedo or go the SIP digital route. Shipping from Vietnam to Canada is 80$. So thinking the accurate digital option with all the other features is better overall.

There are 3 popular schools in my neighbourhood. Most of the residential streets have lowered speed limits and most weeks there are police camped out with radar. My scoot is loud enough it attracts attention and I have no idea how fast I am going. I've been done for speeding 3 times over the past 2 years. Any of those tickets cost me more than a new sip speedo.

I had the pickup bracket welded to speedo housing like this. I replaced the bolts that hold the disc on with magnetic ones

That is a good idea. These sensors might be a bit big for that though. For mine I just stuck the magnet to the disc and covered it in JB Weld.

That was Pride/mark that did that. He glued magnet into worm on hub and then the pick up where speedo cable goes. I can't remember if he ran pick up wire inside normal cable to give standard impression
