hi,does anyone know if mahle pistons are designed not to use shims either end of the little end bearing as no matter how hard i try i cant fit them,too thght,ive assembled the top end without the shims is this ok.

I don't have any on the little end on my piston.

No shims on my mitaka piston but the crank is shimmed,but you want a bit of float anyway.If your crank is shimmed then it shouldn't be a problem,you don't want shims both ends crank and piston,either one end or the other but not both.

Are bike cranks shimmed at the big end?

stickies book covers this .. i think it says shims are not needed depending on the crank

when i worked at pittville cycles we used to do alot of smaller bikes and some RD,s and they were shimmed i cant remember the smaller stuff being shimmed but all the twins were, the shims would wear on some and there were tolerance given by the makers i dont ever remember seeing any small end shims its been over 20 yrs i dont remember any cranks letting go but normally the bike would smoke and rattle which ment rings and prob crank bearing on its way out

tbh .. lambrettas are the only two stroke .. never in a four .. that i have ever worked on/had in bits that use gudgeon pin shims

the engine is assembled and running fine,the shims are not fitted as it was impossible to fit them,il just need to see how it goes.
