I have always believed that the standard spring is 400lb - remember that the R1 shock is worked from both ends using multiple links, and it is a heavy bike - so it is essential that the spring is changed.

A 220lb spring would be just about acceptable for a fat-lad, but I opted for the 180lb spring as I am 11st.

Speak to Chiggy. Top man.

Could we have a difinitive answer re the weight ratio regarding the 180lb against the 220lb as I may have spread slightly since buying my 180lb spring R1 shocker of the Chig man ..I keep blaming ar lass for shrinking me clothes but shes having none of it :D

after the battering my spine got at Mallory i'm inclined to think 400 lb is more likely

I think on the old lambrettaupgrades site it did mention the weight as regards which spring, the 225lb is for the scooterist with the fuller figure or two up.Not telling which one I have

I fitted a 180lb spring from Demontweeks to mine and on mid preload setting its a fantastic shocker for my slender 17st, lads I know who ride 2 up a lot or loaded up on racks use the 220lb one. If you look at the difference in wire diametre of a 180lb to the standard then I can easily believe the standard is 400lb.
