Just got a new inner speedo cable to fit. What would you lubricate it with? Or does it even need it?

When I worked at a truck place, fitting tacho's and the cables we had tubs of special grease, which I suspect had a bit of moly in, it and wasn't particularly thick or sticky. The important bit was not to grease right up to the end so the stuff didn't work its way up in to the speedo head.
Sorry for lack of precision but maybe a less vague person can remember better.

rub a bit of the copper stuff on it ..cant harm can it

Pencil lead, while mainly graphite, does contain granulated carbon or sometimes china clay too, so unless your application needs an abrasive ....
Coppaslip is a bit too sticky, and oils tend to dribble out, although I did use STP (the oily stuff, not the other) on the VERY heavy clutch on my Laverda which lubed well but messily.

Castrol Moly grease is the one. Leave the last 6 inches at the speedo end dry and use sparingly.

I'm supposed to be the muppet :freak: and I'm tellin ya its gear box oil U use same stuff ya put in ya gearbox st90 sae90 ya aposed to use it on yer felt pad on ya stator as well; grease is too heavy and graphite won't cut it; its oil Oil oil OIL i tells ya cuz the cable spins not pulled like the others So in anser to yer Question :smug: the oil ya need is the gearbox sort that ya use in ya scoots gearbox anything else is pants st90 sae90 an yer don't lube the last 6 inches cus itll wind its way up the cable an Fook ya speedo innards,

silicone grease is good (i have a tub) or more normally i use some thin oil like 3 in 1
