Hello peeps, I have been given a set of clip and brackets. I have just fitted the set in the scoot and the clip does not sit still. I am starting to wonder if the bracket kit is just deffective or badly built. I wonder if someone could share some light on this as there is nothing written about it on any manual. Its been years since I have looked at a pannel handle series III arrangement so I do not remember how it goes. This is an ocre jet, and it originally had the clip on sidepannels.


In the following picture you can see that I have to hold the clip with my finger because if I don't do so, the clip just falls down..

Have you got the fixing brackets the wrong way round?

the fixing brackets are the correct way round- the little pointy bit on each one centralises the angled bracket.

Also, the whole bracket was designed to fall forward when it wasn't under pressure from the actual sidepanel handles- this was done to allow the rear wheel to be removed.

Very early S3's had a little bracket which kept the whole mechanism tight against the number plate area. It was only when Innocenti were deluged with complaints from people who had problems removing the rear wheel, that this was hastily dropped.

You should find that whenn the panels are clipped on, the whole mechanism gets tight- in the event that it does not, then put some plastic petrol pipe over the ends of the bracket itself

Looking at the pic ,it looks to me that the clip on the carb side of the scooter needs bending out

Thanks a lot for your kind answers lads! There is a lot of slack between both brackets and the pannel just dances arround. I should try fitting some piping to the clip. If this does not solve it, then I will weld more metal to the clip itself to see if this sorts the problem out.

the bracket itself should be a "tightish" fit when the two smaller brackets are tightened. You may need to pack out the small brackets so that the large bracket will only move when you need to fold it forwards.

I'm sure I've seen a rubber gasket that goes behind the whole lot too (believe MB do them from memory) A lot of peeps don't bother fitting them. I made one out of some old plastic flash band stuff I had lying around in the workshop.
