95 Ron unleaded or 99?
I am sure this has been discussed before, but, if i had my TS1 240 dynoed on normal 95 octane petrol, what effect will putting 99 shell super have? Will it run hotter, colder or the same? Is pinking a more of a problem or less? The motor lives 'on the edge' at 34 bhp, so it would be good to know if there would be any problems that i should look out for.......
I don't want to keep up with modern traffic. I want to hoon past it, preferably on one wheel!

id say safer on super but not on tesco super which has a high e85 % which will lean out the jetting
temperature is what you need to watch out for, a lot of failures are down to the basic problem of overheating but on a scoot without a temp gauge fitted the problem is often overlooked, drive the car with the temp gauge in the red and we back off as we know its gonna be expensive if we dont yet high hp air cooled 2 strokes get thrashed without giving it a thought.
fit a temp gauge and get a feel for std temps round town/touring temps/thrash temps and set your own red areas/numbers from your findings

heres the info i found but i originally read about it in mcn
The Tesco chain of supermarkets in the UK have started selling an E5 brand of gasoline marketed as 99 RON super-unleaded. Its selling price is lower than the other two forms of high-octane unleaded on the market, Shell's V-Power (99 RON) and BP's Ultimate (97 RON).
i used tesco super in my race scooter but had to adjust the jetting to suit it,prior to that i used e85 and adjusted jetting to nearly 50% bigger on main jet and pilot sizes with a needle i had to grind myself

An official source would have been appreciated since I'm normally filling up with that petrol....Darrell Taylor wrote:heres the info i found but i originally read about it in mcn

Makes good club points

Perhaps need to start going elsewhere then, but so far it's been running great... Even though my spark plug colour is a bit on the bright side tbh

Biofuel rules could price older car drivers off the road
Motorists could end up paying a premium of up to 8p per litre from next year, according to the Metro newspaper this week.
According to reports, nearly one million motorists could suffer as the government prepares to increase the biofuel content in unleaded fuel from five per cent to ten per cent as directed by the EU.
Some older models, made before 1993, will be unable to use the new fuel and could be left stranded as forecourts move to stock the new 10 per cent ethanol fuel.
The Metro suggests that this will mean that motorists of older cars would therefore only be left with one choice-premium petrol-which cost more than regular unleaded.
According to car magazine Auto Express, BP and Tesco have confirmed they may sell just super-unleaded on forecourts.
A Tesco spokesperson said: ‘Our premium unleaded, Momentum 99, would then be our E5 fuel.’
Julie Sinclair, of Auto Express, said: ‘On the face of it, this looks like an eco-friendly initiative. But there’s nothing nice about forcing the most cash-strapped motorists to buy the most expensive fuel on the forecourt.’

Since having trouble with floats swelling in a couple of carbs on different scooters I read up on the Ethanol content of modern "petrol". Since then, well over a year ago, I've been using Super Unleaded from BP or V-Power, because of the lack of Ethanol, with no further ill effects.
Today we were out touring around and I ended up having to fill up at a Gulf station. No Super Unleaded option available
:flaming:
. A few miles down the road the previously sparkling perfomance, even two up, was reduced by a significant amount. Dropping down gears at the slightest hill, where previously we'd been flying up far worse in top!
Thankfully I've nearly used that tank full and I'll be straight back to BP Ultimate for a refill.

One could cynically think that there's a push to get more brand new cars sold..Darrell Taylor wrote:Julie Sinclair, of Auto Express, said: ‘On the face of it, this looks like an eco-friendly initiative. CakeAndArseParty
Also one could cynically comment that they want you to recycle...except where they lose out such as recycling old vehicles instead of buying new euro-blobs.
There'll be an EU directive where people who are cynical/think outside the box start 'disappearing' next
There's a list somewhere of types of fuel which do not contain ethanol as yet, esso super and bp ultimate were among them.
I'll try to find it.
